Cursive have recently been preparing to enter the studio to record the follow up to 2006’s Happy Hollow. In the mean time, they have been a bit busy giving the fans a few chances to check out some new material both live, on the road, and recorded before the record comes out.
Cursive recently recorded sessions at Daytrotter and WOXY which can be heard here and here. On Monday the 19th of May, they also recorded a live session for Sound Opinions in Omaha. The show will be available as a podcast within the next couple weeks, so keep an eye out because we all know art is hard…boom.

The audio quality of the Daytrotter stuff is poor so I don’t recommend it. The WOXY stuff, however, sounds great, and they play the same songs so you wouldn’t be missing anything if you went the WOXY-exclusive route.
Unfortunately, I find the new material boring, and this is coming from a Cursive fan. Granted, it took a while for Happy Hollow to grow on me so I’m still looking forward to the new record.
Thanks, Cursive! I wish more of my favourite bands did stuff like this.

Uh…well I like it! On first listen I’m really struck by the beautiful sparse creepiness of the new jams. (And it sounds like ted stevens is using an auto-wah pedal and actually making it sound good! Salut!)
