Weezer has really impacted the music world by delivering some of the most powerful and inspirational albums in the 90s. Either of those records are almost always on top 100 lists, and on top of that, they invented a sound and look that to this day is emulated among many kids and musicians. They then made Green Album, which was pretty good, though many felt let down by it. The rest we all know and needs no further discussion, as I’m sure you all have done already a few times over lattes. That brings us to the present, which brings us to the up and coming Red Album.
There is an unwritten law for bands before they officially fade away, and that is the three strike rule. Three bad albums and there can be no more redemption. This should probably be changed to a two strike rule, but if you count Green Album, which a lot do, then they had their three strikes and can’t be saved nor make a good record again. They however keep at it and some how keep selling records. I suppose it’s the little 12 year olds in Minnesota who want to live like a gangster in Beverly Hills, or the kids who wish they could do drugs whilst singing the diarrhea song. Regardless, they keep at it, even if that means going through a string of bassists and finishing college along the way.
I have absolutely no hope for Weezer and I don’t know why I keep hoping…that was until I heard the new single Pork and Beans. By some miracle or another I didn’t need to run screaming into the woods after I heard it, even with the song title nestled right there with it. I’m confused by whether I want so badly for Weezer to not sink into the abyss, or whether it’s actually a pretty good song. It resembles a LOT of Blue Album in sound, yet after a close inspection, it still doesn’t deliver lyrically. They even went so far as to make Red Album ten songs, both of which Pinkerton and Blue had. I think I can handle a Blue Album replica, but perhaps that may be what officially destroys them when it falls short in communication. Either way I find myself asking things I thought I wouldn’t ask again: Could the next Weezer album actually be pretty decent? Can they rise from the three strike grave? We shall see June 24th. Until then, you decide.

loren ( i write on this sometimes )
i have to say, i have had this weird phenomenon with albums where their best song ( most of the time its their single ) is song three.
now i haven’t heard “pork and beans” but i know its going to be their single… so im just saying… i have hope…. ish….. i have hopeish that this is going to be decent.
