The Item:

Sirius Radio
All the cool kids are doing it. Do you want to be left out? So what if it costs hundreds to buy and set up, do you really want to miss out on 90’s rock music 24/7? I thought not. Plus all the cool blogs like Brooklyn Vegan and Aquarium Drunkard sometimes get to have little spots on the indie station Left of Center and play “hip” upcoming or already “arrived” bands such as My Morning Horses Band of Rogue Wave. The only draw back to this is some of the stations, like Left of Center, cycle whatever is popular over and over and hardly give you a good variety throughout the day. That’s ok though because by the 10th time you hear Black Lips you can really realize how they are the worst band in the last 10 years and have successfully tattooed their name on CMJ and Pitchfork’s boners. Their “look at us reinvent what’s been done a thousand times before” falls way short, and with songs like “O’ Katrina” they just shove their dicks hard in asses of failer with attempts to represent some sort of late 70’s punk rock. One of the options for Sirius Radio is it can come portable and record up to an hour’s worth of songs, and thus one has the option to be able to skip around and avoid bands like Black Kids…I mean Lips.

The Show:

Clark and Michael
Juno and Superbad have really put Michael Cera on the map, which didn’t already include his rise in popularity with Arrested Development. Like the genius Michael Cera is, he decided to team up with Clark Duke (Greek, small part in Superbad) and have some fun making a “documentary”, titled Clark and Michael, about two guys trying to get a show piloted on a network. They play fictional characters of themselves of what seems to be about 35 years of age and borderline gay, yet have episodes where Clark won’t let Michael drive his car because on Michael’s recent drivers test he got an 81% and Clark thus doesn’t feel that Michael is worthy to drive it. They have 10 episodes up and all worth watching. Enjoy.
End Scene,
Dan Tana

The Place:

Silver Lake Lounge in February
The ultimate in “so dive it’s cool” venues for the Silver Lake scene is the Silver Lake Lounge located right on Sunset in…you guessed it, Silver Lake. This very cramped but very fun venue will play host to two amazing residencies next month. The free Monday nights will feature the very young and extremely talented Robert Francis who will be joined by great acts like Dawes (featuring members from Simon Dawes) and Brother Will from Austin, TX outfit Brothers and Sisters.
The Weather Underground will hold down the Wednesday night residency in February and though it isn’t free, it’ll still be worth every penny since it won’t be much longer that you’ll be able to see these guys in an intimate setting like this. They’re residency kicks off on February 6th with the fabulous line up of Frankel, Le Switch and The World Record. Later in the month they’ll be joined by Francisco The Man!, Flashing Red Lights and other great acts.

I’ll be there every Wednesday and just about every Monday begrudgingly drinking Budweiser as it is the only “on tap” option. To split up the Mondays, I’ll be trying to catch Henry Clay People’s Monday night stint at The Echo.
