Friday Night Lights

Now I’m not much of a football fan, in fact, the Super Bowl and the occasional University of Oregon games are about all I tend to watch. With that said, I was one of the last people who thought I’d be so bold to say that a show that revolves around a Texas High School football team is currently one of the best shows on TV. Football barely even takes the forefront though in this drama that focuses more on the family and friend dynamics of these kids and mostly on Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler). With an amazing cast and amazing music (Explosions in the Sky who scored the movie of the same name contribute tons of music and the latest episode featured two Wilco songs) this show is the most real and emotional thing to hit primetime television in years.

The Music:

Jens Lekman - The Opposite of Hallelujah

This song is just a jam. I just want to put on my pjs on a sunny day and sit on a balcony sipping a cocktail whilst listening to this song. It is too bad the rest of this record isn’t that good, but that’s ok, he gave us this little gem.

Kitchen Nightmares

I have come to terms with realizing that every single reality TV show is great. Someone will come up and go, “Oh have you seen this new show!?” Yes, we know, it really is all good television. America’s Next Top Model and Beauty and the Geek rate a bit higher though, and I think that’s the general consis from minor mental surveys. There is a show that sometimes will slip under the radar, and that is Kitchen Nightmares. This show is not only awesome all around, it’s also possitive and one of the few things on TV that’s geared toward actually helping people. This chef, Gordon Ramsay, will go into a failing restaurant, and totally help renovate it, fix the menu, help and/or fire the staff as needed, and yell at them all along the way. Chef Ramsay is not only attractive, his intesity is always right for these employees and owners, and they need what he provides. There’s fights and yelling matches from stubborn head chefs who can’t change their old failing ways, but everyone there knows it needs to be done. You always are rooting for everyone to win, and the show makes you feel like that you really are in love after that big fight and your relationship is stronger in the end. The turn around these restaurants make is awesome, and generally Ramsay will help further and get them get out into the community with sponsering marathons and things of that nature. I just need to get it over with and buy this show on dvd. (The original British one is equally as good, and if you can find that, that’s whole other can of amazing worms).
