Wednesday the 25th of September was a fun night of music. We had Summer Darling, Amateurs, Mezzanine Owls, and of course The Monolators. Oh yeah, it also happened to be a CD/EP release party for The Monolators. They decided to do something really cool and release an EP on vinyl with a bar code upon which you can use to download it online for your enjoyment in the car or on the computer…or perhaps a light jog. The self released EP is titled You Look Good On The Train and you can get it by contacting them, or better yet, a show where you can see them live at the same time. It never hurts to use one stone.

I have had the pleasure of seeing The Monolators once before, yet this time they really didn’t hold back. The highlight for me was when all hell broke loose and the singer, Eli Chartkoff, somehow lost his guitar mid song and just took his mic and ran around the stage, got on top of the drums, kicked over other mics, and wriggled on the floor all in an energetic fury of feeling the moment. I almost thought he should get a guitarist to play his parts and just sing because for that moment I was about ready to bring it back to my 90’s punk roots and join him on stage for a good round of moshing.

As a whole I’d say they have a sort of a Clash-ish, meets late 70’s underground punk with out the complaining about how their dad’s dick is bigger vibe. They are a fun band to watch and have solid songs. I do hope to see them again soon.
