There’s nothing finer for me than walking into a land of “fashionable” kids who think wearing a fur hat with swim trunks, a fanny pack, flip-flops, talking on the cell in the pool, and giving head to Cobrasnake at the same time is the coolest thing in the world. Well such was the the case this last Sunday at the Summer Camp Little Radio festival. Though to be fair, Cobrasnake was no where to be found as far as I could tell. The cool factor was replaced with the likes of Annie from Giant Drag and Anton from Brian Jonestown Massacre. Aside from the interesting folk that roam these kind of parties and festivals in Downtown LA, it was actually a pretty fun festival. They had a moon bounce, a rather big slip-’n-slide, ping pong, a little pool, badminton, and unlimited beer with a small admission fee of $10.
The music portion opened up with Brothers and Sisters, who from what I hear were great. I wasn’t able to catch their set, but for those who missed the set too or want to see them in general, they are playing the Ex Plex with The Mother Hips June 14th. I’ve been told Brothers and Sisters have a great live show and come highly recommended.
Next we had The Little Ones who I do like a lot and was able to see them play the Ex Plex myself about a month ago. They put on a great show again. They are the kind of band that smiles a lot on stage and really seems to enjoy what they do. They played some new ones, which interestingly enough sound a bit on the jungle side of things. I’m still getting used to them, but we’ll see what the future holds on record. I was able to catch the singer Ed Reyes during the festival and talk to him for sec, and unlike some band members I’ve ran across he was actually really nice and talked to me and asked ME questions rather than wanting to scurry away into the abyss.
Last but not least we have The Raveonettes who are what they are. There’s two people…they played instruments…there’s rules to their songs…they made noise…some minor technical difficulties…the end.
For those who want to party, swim, see some music, drink some beer, every Sunday this summer (’til 8/12/07) you should all come out. The address is 1218 Long Beach Ave. in Downtown LA. Hope to see you there.
End Scene,
Dan Tana
