San Francisco is one of the lamest places to visit. I actually like the idea of the city, but the people there are rather out of their minds. Just taking a stroll down Haight reminds me of walking down Melrose, but in a Harry Potter film directed by shit caked ass hair. I nearly got fired, hung and shot from the coffee shop I went to asking for water, after buying food and a coffee. I wish I could remember the name of it now so I can tell no one to go there and not order from the coffee nazi who burns his testicles each night to remind himself what it was like when his father used to do it to him.
Amoeba has three locations, two of which are about 30 minutes from each other. The one in San Francisco is located on Haight St., where obviously the cool kids hang out. The first thing I want to bring up is the complete lack of trying for the front window display at this Amoeba. Amoeba in L.A. has some thought put into it and is laid out decently. This one is laid out like they went into their old hippie parent’s attic and got a bunch of acid made junk and literally just tossed it in there and called it done. There are weird dolls hanging from the ceiling and random shit they just dumped in.

Upon entering this Amoeba the walk of shame is not nearly as bad as the walk of shame as in Los Angeles. You can walk easily right in without being “judged”. After the walk of shame for the L.A. Amoeba you just head for the new used (Vinyl is actually an exception), but for the San Francisco one you just go to used. You can start in new used, or just start walking down the aisles, but go to used.
Here’s the secret to this Amoeba: Because all the artsy kids are too elitist and have a choice of where to find good music all around the city, Amoeba in San Francisco has gold. No one really goes, so there are tons of good cds for around $5 to $7. Most of the card slots have stuff in them, and they have b-sides and out of print stuff. There were 3 Treepeople records in the BTS slot, one of which was out of print. The best find was Phantom Planet’s The Guest (Reissue) for $2. I usually am happy to find one record in a shopping spree for $5. I had to put stuff back because it was starting to be like “well if I get this I might as well get this too” syndrome. I think also that the L.A. location marks their used cd prices higher. I’ve never had to make myself leave like this. Had I stayed I would have just put a bunk in the corner and started a new life. I didn’t even go to the new, and was so lost in the used I didn’t really browse the vinyl too much like a douche. What I did see in the vinyl looked pretty normal all around as far as finds go, but who knows for sure. Right outside next to a parking meter were a stack of vinyl just sitting there. I saw 3 or so people rummage through it and leave. I figured it was a trap and didn’t look, but they are into just giving stuff away apparently at this Amoeba.
The whole line situation wasn’t nearly as bad as Amoeba in L.A. I could think here and there wasn’t any pressure. I’ve only been on weekdays to the S.F. location, but still, in L.A. you can’t see that well and there are two sides, with like 14 clerks, and it’s a lot of pressure. I will say though as a side note that the S.F. location has the same employees as the L.A. location. They use the teleportation device stored in the back to travel from one location to the next. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a butch girl working the information booth, just your run of the mill lesbian.
Overall, I’d say those douches shopping at the elitist stores are missing out, and if you are in the area go to this one and scope it out. I mean, you should go to the “cooler” stores too, but the others have left treasures in Amoeba for us and it’s up to you to find them.

End Scene,
